MYTHS

Building Links Too Fast Will Get You Penalized

The objective of search engine marketing is to generate traffic for your website. This is applied through:

  • On-Page Optimization
  • On-Site Optimization
  • Off-Page Optimization

Now, off page SEO entails building authority and search engine superiority via natural links and mentions. Google expects you to do this to improve ranking and appear higher in search engine result pages (SERPs).

Hence, it is expected of new websites to have a higher rate of “authority building” so as to appear more frequently in response to search queries. As long as these links are within Google’s rules and policies, there is absolutely no problem with building links as fast as you can.

However, a lot of webmasters engage in “questionable” SEO practices to generate authority a little too fast. This usually refers to building links that are spammy, not natural, come from PBNs and usually lack the quality that a natural link has. This can be beneficial in the short run, but if Google catches on then your website may never rank again.

It is this mindset that has led people to believe the myth that a high link velocity will get you banned. If your links are natural and high-quality, then carry own link building!
